DIGITAL WORK

Untitled-6.jpg

THE SONIC RUNWAY

My project 'Versace' is inspired by the 2021 Versace runway. I intended to take the audience on a sonic journey from my perspective that reflects the vibrant, mystical, magical, and courageous energy of the Versace fashion piece. Digesting the sound waves of my tracks allow for a whole new sensory experience.

Data led me to analyse the psychological impact sound can have on a consumers vision of clothing and the importance of the sonic atmosphere on a catwalk. Sound associated with catwalks is influential as it creates the feeling and mood associated with the clothing. My aim was to embrace my digital media sound design skills to not only 'sell' the product itself, but the aura it portrays.

The pieces were created with GarageBand and Logic experimenting with tones associated with the mood I planned to convey.

The five individual tracks remain strong as stand-alone pieces, yet I highly recommend viewing the footage along with my design. My collection encapsulates the genre of techno, ambient and house music. The tracks illustrate the aura of  the 2021 Versace collection. (mute original Youtube audio)

Resonance - Korb

In the quirky selection of assets given by RMIT I chose to design the sound for ‘Resonance – Korb’ and ‘Resonance – JP Frenay’. Firstly, I chose to manipulate the Resonance – Korb clip purely because I admired the weirdness of it. The short film is set in the desert and takes us through the stages of an emerging being made of fluid. Analysing the video inspired me to bring the mysterious being to life by attaching sounds that engage the audience and influence them to figure out what on earth is the being and what is it’s worth? The overall aim was to design/manipulate sounds to enhance the immortal characters impact on the audience.

Resonance - JP Frenay

‘Resonance – JP Frenay’ is the asset I chose to experiment with. It involves a 3D object roaming around the screen transforming into different shapes and sizes. The animation initially led me to feel engaged, content and intrigued by its active movement. I selected this animation because I was up for a challenge and was excited to design the sound for something so detailed.

The aim when designing the sound for this track was to influence the audience to feel mesmerized and calm. It was important for me to pay close attention to the finer details to effectively engage the audience.

Flocking Whippets - Gina Moore

In the fascinating selection of Gina Moore’s animations, the Flocking Whippet was the clip I chose to manipulate. The rhythmic movements and shapes that the characters formed were intriguing. I aimed to create a soundtrack that articulated the patterns and movements of the running whippets to intrigue the audience and turn a simple animation into an impactful one.

Viewing the animation of the flocking whippets I thought I could do one of two things, create a soundtrack that focuses on purely cognitive articulation and create what noises are expected, or take a more abstract approach and make the most of affective engagement influencing the audience to feel the power of the atmosphere.

The Moment of Death - Tame Impala

‘The Moment of Death’ is the clip I chose to sonically design. The thrilling scenes led to me being excited to enhance the setting of the scenes through sound. There are few limitations when it comes to sci-fi film creativity which I admire. I initially mapped out my plans for the film by watching it through different narrative levels and digging deep into each scene. For example when exploring through an environmental lens I explored the space of the film, which ultimately is dark, unsettling, thrilling. The setting continues to be quite dark overall. The character is then situated in a plane filled with props flying everywhere signalling an emergency is happening in the air. The character then descends out of the plane through a fire. The environment helps the audience understand that emergency situations are happening which contributes to the narrative of the story. It was my role to convey that through audio.
